25 Tiny Ways to Love Yourself

25 Tiny Ways to Love Yourself

In case no one told you today; you’re amazing. Yes, you. I know that’s twee, but everyone deserves to love themselves no matter what. But the journey to self love is a difficult one – I know this because I’m still on it myself – but here are a few small ways to get started…

  1. Use the special shower gel. Life’s too short to “save” it and you’ll always find an excuse not to use it.
  2. Same goes for lingerie and bed sheets. Good underwear can make you feel on top of the world and everyone loves clean sheet night, right?
  3. Ask for help. I’ve always struggled asking for help. I think it’s been drilled into me from a young age that people should be able to do things alone or that people won’t be willing to help. In fact, I’ve found most, if not all, people I meet are more than willing to lend a hand, a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen when asked.
  4. Have a clear out. Be ruthless and declutter your life. If you haven’t worn it in a year or it isn’t a memory, be like Elsa and let it go.
  5. Eat your greens. Yeah, I know, everyone says this one. But it’s true that eating healthy makes you feel better, from a psychological point of view too.
  6. On the other hand, if you want a cookie, have the damn cookie. Or chocolate. Or both.
  7. Leave yourself alone. Stop with the guilt and mental torture. Whether it’s over said cookie and chocolate or staying inside all Sunday watching TV under a blanket. You’re only human and deserve some time off.
  8. Start looking after yourself, and I mean properly. Take your makeup off at the end of the day, brush your hair regularly, cue tip your ears – it can be anything! Trim your nails, exfoliate your feet and don’t pick your spots. Look after your body and I promise it’ll look after you.
  9. Have sex. Or, if you’re not in a relationship or after a casual arrangement, indulge in some self love. Seriously. Put on some candles, have a bath, pick out your favourite toy and make yourself feel incredible. Don’t just race for the OH either, take your time.
  10. Train your brain. The mind is a muscle and needs to be exercised. So whether it’s a crossword or Sudoko (yes, I am 80) or reading instead of watching TV, it’ll do you a world of good.
  11. Give yourself a break. I know, you haven’t been to the gym at all this week. And you had two pizza in 4 days. So? Newsflash, guilt will only make you feel worse and sometimes you need to reward yourself.
  12. Move your body. It doesn’t have to be a circuit session or spin class (but it can if you want it to) but rather as simple as a few yoga stretches, a Bikram class, a gentle walk or Pilates. Your muscles and mind will thank you for it.
  13. Go to bed early. Do you remember when you were a kid and the prospect of pre 9pm bedtime was shocking? Well now I’d give anything to be asleep before 9pm. The hours spent asleep before midnight are fair more valuable than those after, so rack ’em up while you can.
  14. Stand up for yourself and your beliefs. You could go on the next Women’s March or just stand up for someone in need. However big or small, standing for something will give a good old boost to your values and principles.
  15. Find what you love and do more of it. What makes your heart sing? Is it writing? Drawing? Painting? Dancing? Whatever it is, make more room in your life for your favourite activities.
  16. Pick the right people. Toxic relationships can be a drain on your very soul, trust me I know, so get the people who love you and support you unconditionally around you. And don’t be afraid to say goodbye to the ones who don’t treat you right. It’s not selfish; it’s self love.
  17. Be unique. Stop trying to be like everybody else and embrace the unique traits that make you YOU.
  18. Be grateful. There’s a lot flying around about gratitude right now, but it really does work. Making small lists of things you are thankful for will slowly change your perspective and turn your mindset into a more positive one.
  19. Love your body. This isn’t an easy one, but learning to love the skin you’re in is the biggest reward you can give yourself. Nourish your insides with healthy food, pamper your outside with regular baths and showers and moisturise. Slowly, it’ll come.
  20. Treat yo’self. Get your nails done, get a pedicure, have your brows waxed, lashes tinted or hair trimmed. Yes, it’s superficial but if it makes you feel confident then go for it.
  21. Meditate. Mindfulness is all the rage right now but there’s a reason for it – it works. Try it for just a few minutes a day in the morning or as you fall asleep and you’ll soon start to see the benefits.
  22. Say no when you want to say no, and say yes when you want to. Govern your own actions and feelings without being dictated by anyone else.
  23. Try something new. Nothing beats the rush of adrenaline and excitement.
  24. Forgive yourself. Whatever you’ve done in the past, it doesn’t matter now. So give yourself permission to move on.
  25. Have fun! Well, we’re only on this earth once aren’t we? So what’s the point in being boring or miserable?!

  • I love how positive this is! Great ideas about pampering yourself and having some of that me-time. That’s always needed! And yes getting rid of toxic people is so important. Really changes your life! Great post love ❤️

  • omg. I LOVE YOUR TATTOO. ♥♥ i’m literally in love with it…what a totally cute little beauty! can i be super nosy and ask if holds special meaning to you? (always find this so interesting having quite a few tattoos myself!)

amen, nice underwear should be warn all the time! i read a quote online once that said something like stop waiting for that special day to come along, today IS that special day – which has stuck with me for a long time and mainly the reason i drink prosecco errryday – why wait! haha 🙂

    • Awww thank you! You’re so lovely. Of course you can ask! I don’t mind at all 🙂 I went through quite a rough time when I got that tattoo (and indeed my others!) and it means ‘when there’s a will there’s a way’ and as cheesy as it may sound it reminded me not to give up against anxiety, depression, etc. It’s a nice little reminder that everything will be ok in the end. I have a complementing one on the other wrist that is also a viking rune so they match!
I’m so glad you liked the post 🙂 And you’re right; today IS that day so why wait?! xx

  • Self care is so important! I love that you included ‘ask for help’. So many people are scared of doing just that because they’re worried that it will make them seem ‘weak’, and I think that’s definitely something that needs to be changed. Help should be available to everyone who needs it!

    • Thank you for reading 🙂 And I totally agree. I’ve found that people are more than happy to help and those who are worth getting help from don’t judge and just want to be there for you! I try and make sure people feel open and comfortable enough to talk to me if/when they need to because I know how it feels 🙂 x

  • I loved this tips. It’s so easy, especially for me as a college student to abandon my body. The tip I like the most is the one where you say it’s okay to lay in bed all day. I used to think that even taking the smallest nap was being “lazy” but I soon realized that I SS exhausting myself trying to cram everything in. I will definitely return to this post later!

  • I’ve just come across your blog and this is such a great post! It’s so nice to see such a postive post and it’s so important to share!! Can’t wait to see more from you💛
